On May 5, 2019, Valiance celebrated their victory of the DreamHack Open Summer 2019 Europe Closed Qualifier. The primarily Serbian CSGO team beat the mostly Russian Winstrike 2-0 on Mirage and Inferno. However, the players on Valiance and Winstrike come from all across Europe: Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Serbia, and Finland.
With this win comes not only glory and bragging rights for Valiance, but a spot in the DreamHack Open Summer 2019 tournament. Of the eight (8) teams that will be in attendance, the only other team that has qualified thus far is the all Swedish team, Ancient.
These matches were very intense to watch. The final scores on both maps show this was not a one-sided affair. On Mirage, the final score was 16-12 and on Inferno, 16-11. The bouts in Mirage were quite distinct from those on Inferno. Mirage’s rounds went back and forth like a game of Ping-Pong. Valiance was slowly able to build up their first map win, but Winstrike refused to roll over every second of it. On the second map, both teams started to find their rhythm. Watching the first half of Inferno, it was still unclear who would take home the gold. The heavy pendulum of round wins swung back and forth, and the fingernails of every viewer were methodically being bitten away.
Valiance won the first five (5) rounds in a row. Soon after, Winstrike responded by winning four (4) rounds of their own. However, as the teams switched sides in this marathon of a game, it soon became lucid which group was about to cross the finish line. In a final burst of energy, Valiance finished off Winstrike with a seven (7) round win streak to take the title.
Our sincerest thanks goes out to all members of both teams for their stellar performances. Among these ten phenomenal players we would like to give a few specific shout outs. Otto ‘ottoNd’ Sihvo, a twenty-one (21) year old Finnish CSGO player, earned the most first kills (12) and the most regular kills (44). This no doubt contributed a lot to the success of Valiance in this tournament. Another honor should be paid to Rokas ‘EspiranTo’ Milasauskas. This Lithuanian player, at just the age of eighteen (18), had the most damage dealt per round (94.3) and the highest HLTV rating of (1.33).
Best of luck to Valiance in the DreamHack Open, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for Winstrike!
